Rock Island Summer Ag Institute, July 9-13, 2012

Rock Island County Summer Agricultural Institute to be held July 9-13, 2012. Teachers send in your application today! Application deadline is June 1, 2012. 

Summer Ag Institute (SAI) is a week-long course that focuses on agriculture. SAI offers three graduate credit hours in cooperation with Aurora University, or Continuing Professional Development Units. The tour helps pre K-12 grade teachers integrate instruction about the food and fiber industry into their present curriculum.

RICFB Foundation "Hall of Fame"

Rock Island County Farm Bureau is proud to announce that it is seeking nominations for the first ever Hall of Fame award which will be presented to deserving individuals who made an impact on Rock Island County farming and agriculture.

The Hall of Fame Award was started as a way to recognize farmers in Rock Island County who have been an entrepreneur for the agricultural industry and to begin documenting history making efforts in the county.

Bushels for Hunger on Jim Mertens and WQPT's The Cities

The 2011 Bushels for Hunger campaign kicked off August 1 and RICFB Manager DeAnne Bloomberg talks with Jim Mertens on WQPT's The Cities program about it. "The Cities" airs every Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. and an encore presentation on Sunday's at 6:30 p.m. on WQPT. Watch here 

FMCSA Announces Stance on Regulations Impacting Farmers

Good news!

 

Crop-share tenant farmers will no longer be considered "for-hire" and implements of husbandry will not be regulated as trucks under the terms of the announcement issued this morning by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA.)

 

That decision wipes away mountains of uncertainty for farmers faced with serious decisions about motor carrier safety regulations (MCSR) and how their operations could function legally.

Grain Drive Yields $9,500 Check to the River Bend Foodbank

Illinois farmers in the Quad City area donated corn and soybean bushels for the first ever "Bushels for Hunger" grain drive to yield a $ 9,500 donation to the River Bend Foodbank.

Geneseo farmer Wayne Anderson presented the donation to Tom Laughlin of the River Bend Foodbank on Wednesday, December 8th, at the River Bend Foodbank in Moline.
